Mission Buchhandlung / Unboxing: Forbidden Planet

Forbidden Planet existiert schon seit ewigen Zeiten im Herzen Londons. Es ist ein sicherer Hafen für Nerds aller Couleur (Comics, SFF, Merch, you name it!) und war es schon, als Neil Gaiman und Terry Pratchett sich noch nicht kannten (wer übrigens mal ein uraltes Interview mit Douglas Adams hören möchte - FP haben es zum Geburtstag auf Youtube ausgegraben!).

Ich entdeckte Forbidden Planet ca. 2009, als ich auf der verzweifelten Suche nach Amanda Palmers Buch "Who killed Amanda Palmer" war - bei dem Neil Gaiman übrigens die Texte schrieb, es war ihre erste Zusammenarbeit. Jedenfalls suchte ich überall danach, doch es war überall ausverkauft oder nur aus den USA zu horrenden Kosten erhältlich. Cue FP, bei denen es zum Originalpreis mit Versand aus UK käuflich war. Meine Rettung und seitdem ein (inzwischen signierter) Schatz meiner Sammlung.

2010 absolvierte ich dann mein einmonatiges London-Praktikum und das mehrstöckige Paradies lag natürlich auf meiner Sightseeing-Liste (ich zähle Buchhandlungen zum Sightseeing? Natürlich, was für ein Anblick sind denn bitte interessant bestückte Bücherregale?!).

Nun war ich vorletztes Jahr mit meinen Keksen bei der Tim-Burton-Wanderausstellung und der großformatige Katalog dazu war überall ausverkauft. Einige Zeit später gab es ihn wieder, allerdings nur aus den USA für 75$ plus 75$ Versand, weil das Teil 5kg wiegt. Cue Forbidden Planet im April diesen Jahres: Sie hatten es. Für 50€. Und außerdem noch geile Special Editions für zwei Bücher, die ich eh im Blick hatte. Und das neue von Alice Hoffman, aber mit hübschem UK-Cover. Der Vorbestellen-Button glühte.

Und nun zu heute, wo ich endlich all diese Schätze in den Händen halten und euch präsentieren kann (außer das Innere von Tim Burton, das ist ein Weihnachtsgeschenk an mich selbst).

Stuart Turton hat mich mit seinen "7 1/2 Tode der Evelyn Hardcastle" letztes Jahr total geflasht. Umso begeisterter war ich, dass Forbidden Planet eine tolle Ausgabe seines neusten Werkes mit irrem Farbschnitt, Nummerierung und Signatur veröffentlichten. Und das Cover selbst: in den japanisch anmutenden Wellen sind Totenköpfe versteckt und das Vorsatzbild ist eine Skizze des Schiffsaufbaus! Ich bin ja so gespannt!

Eines der gehyptesten Bücher des Jahres und ich habe die schönste Edition von allen ergattert: mit Farbschnitt, Glitzerfolie auf dem Cover, Folie auf dem nackten Hardcover, wunderschönem Vorsatzbild, Signatur uuund Extrakapitel! Und das alles zum Normalpreis.

Vor einigen Jahren gastierte in Köln die Tim-Burton-Ausstellung und ich wollte unbedingt den Ausstellungskatalog dazu haben. Leider war dieser überall vergriffen und als es ihn wieder gab, nur im Shop in Amerika (hier findet ihr auch Beispielbilder!). Da das gute Stück 5kg wiegt, waren die Versandkosten erheblich über dem Budget.

Doch Forbidden Planet eilt zur Rettung und so werde ich mir diesen Schatz endlich zu Weihnachten schenken, hurra! Das Cover ist übrigens mit Cut-out, das lustige Viereck zeigt das Vorsatzpapier.

Der dritte Band um die magische Familie Owens, der mit "Practical Magic / Zauberhafte Schwestern" begann, enthüllt nun endlich die Vorgeschichte der berühmten Ahnin Maria Owens, mit der der Familienfluch begann.
